Ontario reported 216 new COVID cases today

Public Health Ontario has reported 216 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, a slight increase over last week's daily reports. 

In the last 10 days, the daily case report has only been over 200 new cases twice, once on June 20 and again today. 

The number of tests processed has dipped slightly with 16,189 tests processed since yesterday's report. Last week, there were between 21,000 and 27,000 tests processed each day. 

The province has confirmed 10 more deaths related to coronavirus. All ten deaths reported today were residents in long-term care homes, nine people were over the age of 80 and one person was between 60 and 79 years old. 

Nine more people have been admitted to intensive care units with COVID-19 and another 26 people have been hospitalized. There are currently 288 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 75 in intensive care units and 54 patients on ventilators. 

The province has confirmed a total of 33,853 cases since January, and reports 86 per cent of those cases (29,107) are now recovered. There have been 2,619 deaths reported by Public Health Ontario and attributed to COVID-19. 

The average incidence rate for the province is 227.7 cases per 100,000 people. 

There are now 2,127 active cases of the coronavirus in Ontario.

There are 22 known active cases in Northern Ontario, which is a jump of six since yesterday's report.

Today's provincial report includes data from Jan. 15 to June 23 and includes the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population. Data included on resolved cases and last known confirmed is from each health unit's respective website. The breakdown for Northern Ontario health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 24 cases, rate of 21 per 100,000 population. There are 22 resolved cases, and two active ones.

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 28 cases, rate of 21.6 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 30 cases. Of those, 28 are resolved and there has been one death. There is one known active case.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 66, rate of 79.1 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 67 cases. Of the confirmed cases, 57 are resolved and eight people have died. There are two known active cases of the virus. The last positive test was done June 21.

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 67 cases, rate of 33.2 per 100,000 population. There are 64 resolved cases and two people have died. There is one known active case.

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000. The last positive tests were done April 28. All of the cases are resolved.

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 88 cases, rate of 58.7 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 90 confirmed cases. There are 83 resolved cases and one person has died. There are six known active cases, four of which are hospitalized.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 36 cases, rate of 41.1  per 100,000 population. There are 26 resolved cases, and 10 active ones.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 227.7.
