Ontario confirms 112 new COVID cases today

There are currently 1,240 active, lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the province

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 112 new cases of COVID-19 in today's update and has reported one death. 

The province confirmed the death of an individual over 80 years old with COVID-19. 

Of the new cases confirmed today, 77 (68 per cent) were reported by four health units. According to a breakdown of cases provided by Public Health Ontario, Peel Public Health reported 28 new cases, Toronto reported 26 new cases, Windsor-Essex County reported 11 new cases and York Region reported 12 new cases. 

Data collected from each health unit is current as of yesterday at 4:30 p.m. 

Ontario has now confirmed 42,421 cases of COVID-19 in the province, and of those 31 per cent have been individuals between 20 and 39 years old. Public Health Ontario has also reported 38,369 recoveries, which is 90.4 per cent of all confirmed cases. There have been 2,812 deaths of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, which is 6.6 per cent of all lab-confirmed cases. 

There are currently 1,240 active, lab-confirmed cases in the province, including 65 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 17 patients in intensive care units and five patients on ventilators. 

The province confirmed another 23,545 tests have been processed since yesterday's report with another 15,748 COVID-19 tests awaiting results. 

In Northern Ontario there are four known active cases.

The breakdown for the health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 28 cases, rate of 24.5 per 100,000 population. There is one known active case. 

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases. There are no known active cases.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 73, rate of 87.5 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 94 cases, rate of 47.2 per 100,000 population. There is one known active case.

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 46 cases, rate of 52.5 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 47 cases. There are two known active cases.

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 103 cases, rate of 68.7 per 100,000.There are no known active cases.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 285.4.
