Ontario confirms 105 new COVID cases today

The province has also reported one more COVID-related death today

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 105 new cases of COVID-19 in the province today. 

The province's public health agency has also reported one new death – an individual between 60 and 79 years old. 

The new cases today include 43 people between the ages of 20 and 39 years old, and another 31 people between the ages of 40 and 59 years old. 

According to today's summary, 75 of the 105 new cases were reported by three of the province's 34 health units. Ottawa Public Health reported 24 new cases, Peel Public Health reported 21 new cases, and Toronto Public Health reported 30 new cases. 

Nineteen health units reported zero new cases. 

To-date, the province has confirmed 41,507 cases of COVID-19 through lab testing. Public Health Ontario now reports 37,673 (90.8 per cent) of those are recovered and 2,798 cases (6.7 per cent) have ended in death. 

Based on information provided in today's epidemiological summary, there are 1,016 lab-confirmed, active cases of the coronavirus in Ontario. Of those, 40 people are hospitalized, including 12 in intensive care units and seven patients on ventilators. 

In Northern Ontario there are three known active cases.

The breakdown for the health units is:

  • Algoma Public Health - 27 cases, rate of 23.6 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases. There are no known active cases.
  • Porcupine Health Unit - 72, rate of 86.3 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 94 cases, rate of 47.2 per 100,000 population. There is one known active case.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit - 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.
  • Northwestern Health Unit - 43 cases, rate of 49 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 45 cases. There are no known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 102 cases, rate of 68 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 104 cases. There are two known active cases.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 279.2.
