More than 240 residents at Extendicare Maple View have tested negative for COVID-19 after an outbreak was declared at the long-term care facility last week.

Extendicare confirmed a total of five swabs are still pending.

"We are working closely with our health care partners including Algoma Public Health and the infection control team at the Sault Area Hospital and adhering to all public health directions to keep our residents safe," reads a statement from Extendicare. "We continue to have enhanced infection prevention and control policies in place, including increased cleaning with a focus on high-touch surfaces, screening all residents and staff twice daily for symptoms and are adhering to full PPE requirements throughout the home."

"As community spread of the virus remains high across Ontario, we will continue to do all we can to limit risk of exposure to the people we care for and the staff who support them."

Algoma Public Health declared an outbreak at Extendicare Maple View Dec. 31 following confirmation of COVID-19 in two staff members at the long-term care home.
