COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Sault today

New confirmed case of COVID-19 at Thessalon nursing home; latest COVID-19 numbers from across Ontario and Algoma District

In provincial news, Public Health Ontario reported 266 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday. Recoveries are still climbing faster than new cases, with 351 new recoveries noted in today's update. 

Nine new deaths in the province have been reported, including one person between the ages of 40 and 59, and eight people over the age of 80.

In local news, Algoma Public Health reported a new case of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 23. 

Algoma Manor, a nursing home in Thessalon, confirmed that the latest positive COVID-19 test was from one of its staff members. All other tests have been negative and some are still pending, says the nursing home via Facebook.

  • 23 positive
  • 8,351 negative
  • 802 pending
  • 0 deceased
  • 21 resolved

Total confirmed cases by area of residence: 

  • 18 in Sault Ste. Marie and area, with evidence of community spread
  • 2 in central and east Algoma
  • 3 in Elliot Lake and area
  • 0 in north Algoma
