COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Sault today

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service respond to more than 50 social gathering calls in two weeks; Sunday's COVID-19 numbers from Algoma Public Health

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the Liberals and Opposition parties are "very close" on a deal to resume Parliament after negotiating whether the House of Commons will re-open Monday, and under what terms. 

In provincial news, Ontario reported another 568 positive cases of COVID-19 Sunday, marking the largest single-day increase in positive cases in the province. 

Over 9,000 tests were completed during the testing period. 

In local news, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has responded to more than 50 calls about social gatherings and issued four warnings to groups over the past two weeks.  

A union representing musicians says the Sault's music industry has been hit hard during the COVID-19 crisis.

  • 1,279 tested 
  • 12 positive
  • 958 negative
  • 309 pending 
  • 0 deceased
  • 6 recovered 

Total confirmed cases by area of residence: 

  • 8 in Sault Ste. Marie and area, with evidence of community spread
  • 1 in central and east Algoma
  • 3 in Elliot Lake and area ***
  • 0 in north Algoma

*** Three positive cases in Elliot Lake and area have been confirmed by Elliot Lake Family Health Team, but not Algoma Public Health
