Back to triple digits, as province confirms 106 new COVID cases

The number of new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario is back to triple digits.

Public Health Ontario is reporting this morning that 106 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Ontario over the past 24 hours. On Friday, the province confirmed 92 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario.

There was one more death reported as well, bringing the total number of deaths across the province to 2,789 since the pandemic began.

According to the statistics released today, Peel Region reported 23 new cases, there were 20 new cases in Chatham-Kent, Toronto Public Health reported 16 new cases, while Ottawa had 12 new cases.

However, 27 of the 34 public health units in Ontario had five or fewer new confirmed cases, while 18 health units report no new cases at all over the past 24 hours.

Of today's 106 new cases, 39 are individuals between the ages of 20 and 39, 30 are between 40 and 59, 25 are 19 and under, 14 are between 60 and 79, while there are none over the age of 80. 

There have been a total of 40,565 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario reported to date. Of those, 36,873 have been resolved.

Across Ontario, more than 30,400 people were tested for COVID-19 yesterday. That brings the total number of tests conducted in the province to 2,558,839.

As of today, there are just 39 patients in Ontario who are hospitalized as a result of COVID-19. Among them, 17 are in intensive care units, while 10 are currently needing a ventilator to breathe.

  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 37 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 72, rate of 86.3 per 100,000 population.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 92 cases, rate of 45.2 per 100,000 population.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 44 cases, rate of 50.2 per 100,000.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 100 cases, rate of 66 per 100,000.
