APH reports two new cases and potential COVID exposure at Tim Hortons in Blind River

Both cases are linked to close contact, health unit says

Algoma Public Health is confirming two new cases of COVID-19.

Both are from central and east Algoma. Both exposure categories are close contact and both individuals are self-isolating, the health unit says.

This brings the region's total number of cases to 169. Currently, there are 21 active cases in the region, with two hospitalized.

APH is also advising anyone who visited Tim Hortons in Blind River, located at 43 Causley Street, either through walk-in or drive-thru on the following dates and times, of a potential low-risk exposure to COVID-19.

  • Jan 30, 2021, from 4 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Jan 31, 2021, from 4 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Feb 1, 2021, from 8 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

People who visited this Tim Hortons on the dates/times listed above are asked to self-monitor for signs and symptoms for 14 days, self-isolate immediately if symptoms develop, and seek testing if symptoms occur.

To date, APH has conducted 86,223 tests. Two people have died from the virus and 148 cases have been resolved.

Comparatively, the Chippewa County Health Department, which covers Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. and area, has reported the following numbers as of Jan. 29:

  • 1704 cumulative positives
  • 1439 cumulative recovered
  • 22 cumulative deaths
  • 3 currently hospitalized
