APH reporting five new COVID cases in Algoma

Algoma Public Health is reporting five new COVID-19 cases in the region.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in Algoma to 70.

One of the cases was linked to international travel and the person was tested on Dec. 28.

Two of the cases, both tested on Dec. 31, were linked to close contact with a known confirmed case.

The exposure category for the other two cases, both tested on Dec. 29, is unknown at this time.

Unknown exposure means the person did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

All five people are currently self-isolating.

There are currently eight active COVID-19 cases in the region.

The area remains under provincial lockdown, which went into place on Dec. 26. 

Northern Ontario was to remain in lockdown for at least 14 days from the beginning of the shutdown and it would be reevaluated.
