ADSB adopts staggered back to school plan

ADSB elementary, secondary students will return to school on different days beginning September 8

If you’re a parent with children and/or teens in the Algoma District School Board (ADSB) system, you’ll want to bookmark this or write it down and stick it on your fridge.

The ADSB has released its staggered entry to school schedule for Sept. 8 to 11 for its JK to Grade 12 students.

Each school will divide its JK students into four groups. A new JK group will be added each day from Tuesday to Friday. Schools will be communicating with JK families about which day their child will start, the board states.

The staggered entry to school schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8

Elementary: JK (Group 1) to Grade 2

Secondary: Grade 9 only (plus Grade 7 students in 7-12 schools)

  • Wednesday, Sept. 9

Elementary: JK (Groups 1-2) to Grade 5

Secondary: Grade 10 only (plus Grade 8 students in 7-12 schools)

  • Thursday, Sept. 10

Elementary: JK (Groups 1-3) to Grade 8

Secondary: Grade 11 only (plus Grades 7 and 8 in 7-12 schools)

  • Friday, Sept. 11

Elementary: JK (Groups 1-4) to Grade 8

Secondary: Grade 12 only (and Grades 7 and 8 in 7-12 schools)

  • Monday, Sept. 14

Remote learning officially begins for all JK-12 students who have chosen to continue with remote learning, however students will be contacted during the first week to establish and confirm their courses, timetables and technology use.

“Parents, please note which day(s) your child(ren) will start school. Schools with small enrolment and/or Special Education classes may alter this schedule and will advise parents accordingly,’ the ADSB states.

Late Tuesday, Aug. 19, Ontario’s Ministry of Education announced the province’s school boards may stagger their reopening over the first two weeks of school to enhance health and safety preparedness in the face of COVID-19.

The ADSB adopted its staggered entry plan to provide time and space for staff to set up health and safety routines, guidelines for student/staff movement in schools, and locker allocation and orientation activities where applicable.

The ADSB staggered schedule may be found on the board’s website.
