More Canadian Trivia

Happy Canada Day! Earlier this week I posted a bit of trivia, asking readers to identify notable local figures. The first poster, Imaybetheone answered all six questions correctly.

Happy Canada Day!

Earlier this week I posted a bit of trivia, asking readers to identify notable local figures. The first poster, Imaybetheone answered all six questions correctly.

So, on Canada Day, I thought perhaps I’d give it another try, this time with questions about Canada itself. Hopefully the trivia I’ve chosen is a tad more obscure, or at least challenging.

1. A picture of the Sault Ste Marie Locks appeared on which denomination of Canadian paper money?

2. Who said, “Patriotism is not dying for one's country, it is living for one's country. And for humanity. Perhaps that is not as romantic, but it's better.”

3. Which patriotic song, which is not popular in French-speaking regions of Canada because of its purely English-Canadian outlook, is second only in popularity to O Canada?

4. Which Canadian rock group was formed in 1958, and had their first big hit in 1960 with “Clap Your Hands.”

5. Which Canadian actress was one of the founders of the United Artists film studio?

6. True or false: Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans filed a Canadian patent for an electric lightbulb five years before Thomas Edison?

7. True of false: the North Pole is located in Canada?

8. The “Loonie” was not supposed to have an image of a loon on the reverse. What image was originally intended to appear on the coin?

9. What historic site is located in Dresden, Ontario?

10. Which of the following board games is NOT a Canadian invention?
a) "Trivial Pursuit"
b) "Yachtzee"
c) "Balderdash"
e) “Othello”
d) "Pictionary"

Good luck!
