Now that the warmer weather has returned, the City of Sault Ste. Marie reminds dog owners of the following regulations:

Stoop and Scoop - By-law 87-125
You are required to clean up and properly dispose of excrement deposited by your dog on any property, including your own, in all parts of the City including beaches and park areas.

Running at Large - By-law 98-211
Dogs are not permitted to run at large anywhere within the City, other than on property owned by its owner and the Strathclair Dog Park. Any dog that is off the owner's property must be on a leash that is not more than 6 feet long.

The Strathclair Dog Park is located at 962 Second Line East adjacent to the entrance to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society. The park consists of 3.5 acres of fenced in land, divided into two designated areas - one area for small dogs (25 lbs. and under) and one for large dogs. Open during daylight hours (dawn to dusk).

Persistent Barking - By-law 4100
Persistent barking of dogs is prohibited.

Dog Licences - By-law 98-211
Dog owners must register their dogs annually through the Sault Ste. Marie & District SPCA. Purchasing an annual dog license will ensure that your dog is returned quickly should he/she ever stray. Visit ssmhumanesociety.ca or call 705-949-3573.

Dog owners in violation of these regulations are subject to municipal fines.

Additional information may be viewed at saultstemarie.ca./bylaws. Copies of by-laws can be obtained by contacting the City Clerk's office at 705-759-5388.
