The City of Sault Ste. Marie will unveil its new age friendly community outdoor hub on Thursday, November 4 at noon at the Elliott Sports Complex located on Rossmore Road. The hub includes accessible washrooms, a water fountain, and the addition of eight pickle ball courts.

“Developing this inclusive age friendly outdoor community hub is essential to support outdoor recreation opportunities for older adults and community members of all ages and abilities,” said Brent Lamming, Director of Community Services. “Investment in this area will help contribute to a healthy active community while keeping people connected to their neighborhoods.”

The City received an Inclusive Communities for All Ages and Abilities Grant from the Ontario government for $60,000 for the development of an inclusive age friendly community outdoor hub at Elliot Park. The project is a collaborative initiative involving the Accessibility Advisory Committee, Senior Citizen Clubs, Soo Pickleball Group, Sault Amateur Soccer Association and the Sault Ste. Marie Slo-Pitch League.

All are welcome to attend the unveiling and will be asked to practice public health guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19.
