Sault police have charged a 40-year-old woman with back-to-back break-ins on the same street.

On June 28, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of John Street after someone phoned 911 to report a break-in.

“While investigating that break and enter, another was reported to have occurred just down the street involving the same suspect,” says a news release issued this afternoon by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The victims in both incidents caught the accused collecting items from their residences and the accused fled empty-handed.”

The suspect was later located nearby.

Ami Smith is charged with two counts of breaking and entering. Released on an undertaking, she is scheduled back in court on August 21, 2023.

None of the allegations against Smith have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
