ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT WOMAN AND CHILD Yesterday at approximately 10:20 am, the accused, a 23-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie, was at the residence of his girlfriend, an adult female, and their 2 pre-school aged children.
ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT WOMAN AND CHILD
Yesterday at approximately 10:20 am, the accused, a 23-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie, was at the residence of his girlfriend, an adult female, and their 2 pre-school aged children.

An argument started between the adults. The accused then assaulted one of the children by slapping her. The accused then assaulted the adult female by grabbing her by the head and trying to bang it on the kitchen counter. The accused also tried to punch the adult victim.

She was then grabbed and dragged across the kitchen floor before she broke free and fled to a neighbour’s. During the assault, the accused broke a disposable razor and threatened to cut the victim with it.

At the time of the incident, the accused was on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good, and not molest, harass or physically interfere with the victim. The victim was not seriously injured in the assaults.

At 10:45 am patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with two counts of Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Threatening Bodily Harm and two counts of Breach of Probation. He will appear in bail court.


MAN ASSAULTS GIRLFRIEND
Yesterday at approximately 1:55 pm, the accused, a 24-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie assaulted the victim, his 19-year-old female partner by pushing her into a utility pole, knocking her to the ground and placing his hands around her neck.

The domestic assault occurred over an argument while the couple was walking in the downtown core. The female victim was not seriously injured in the assault. At 3:04 pm, officers located the accused and arrested him. He was charged with Assault. He will appear in court on October 6.


POLICE CALLED TO ALGOMA UNIVERSITY
At 12:55 am this morning, patrol officers were called to Algoma University College at 1520 Queen Street East where the security staff was fighting with an intoxicated male in front of the school.

At 12:59 am, police arrested the male for being intoxicated in a public place under the Liquor Licence Act. The accused, while being placed in the rear of the police cruiser, kicked a patrol officer in the face.

The accused, Oscar Romero, age 43 of 1418 Queen Street East, Cabin 3, was transported to the Police Services Building and advised he was also being charged with Assaulting a Police Officer.

The accused was lodged in a cell, where he proceeded to wrap his hand in the cellblock blanket and repeatedly punch the cell bars. When the blanket was taken away from him he punched another police officer in the chest.

Neither officer was seriously injured in the assaults. Romero was charged with an additional count of Assaulting a Police Officer. He will appear in court in early October.


IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED
Early today, at approximately 12:55 am, patrol officers observed a black 1991 Mazda driving westbound on Queen Street East. The vehicle continued northbound on Gore Street then westbound on Wellington Street.

The officers observed the vehicle was driving in manner that was consistent with that of an impaired driver. The vehicle was stopped on Wellington Street and the driver, Daniel Brochu, age 28 of 524 Allen Side Road was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving and Driving over .08. He will appear in court on October 6th.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break and enters in the past 24 hours.

Shortly after 9:00 am, a homeowner on Palace Drive advised police that thieves had tried unsuccessfully to break into his garage.

Shortly at midnight, patrol officers noted a break-in at Riverside Chrysler on Great Northern Road. Thieves broke into the car dealership and removed a small quantity of cash.
