The following three persons will be appearing in bail court this morning:

1) A 23 year-old male was arrested just after midnight last night at the city police station and charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of aggravated assault, one count of forcible confinement, one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to public and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 18th of September at approximately 11:41 pm the accused attended at a west end residence where his common-law girlfriend was visiting some friends, got into a verbal argument with her over custody of their young child and when she attempted to leave the residence with the child in her vehicle the accused slashed one of the tires with a knife. The accused was able to get into the vehicle with the knife and attempted to take their child. Two male friends of the victim attempted to intervene and as a result one of the males, age 22, was chased a short distance and stabbed in the back by the accused. The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital at this time. The accused turned himself in at the city police station just after midnight.

2) A 29 year-old male was arrested at a west end residence on the 19th of September at 12:40 am and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s west end residence got into a verbal argument with her outside and raised his fist towards her. The victim was able to run back into her residence before being struck by the accused and called police.

3) A 17 year-old male youth was arrested at the court house on Queen Street yesterday afternoon at 12:10 pm and charged with one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house and two counts of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Ontario. It is alleged that on the 13th of September the accused attended and broke into his sibling’s east end residence. The sibling was out of town at the time and advised the accused that he was not to attend at the residence. Relatives looking after the home discovered that the accused was staying there with another male friend and called police. Police attended and located them sleeping inside. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with curfew conditions to be at his residence at that time and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

Shoplifting at Le Chateau

23 year-old Melissa Simpson of #308-588 Albert Street West was arrested at 4:13 pm on the 18th of September at the Station Mall. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Le Chateau Store in the Station Mall and stole a pair of gloves valued at $15.00. The accused was apprehended by Mall Security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 22nd of October.

Possession of Stolen Property & Breach

21 year-old Brandon Horner of 123 Chicora Crescent was arrested on McNabb Street at 3:47 am this morning and charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 19th of September some time after midnight the accused stole a 1994 Ford F-150 from the driveway of a residence on Parasol Crescent. At approximately 3 am the accused was involved in a hit and run collision on Lake Street near Placid Avenue. Two unattended vehicles, a Toyota Truck and a Mini-van that were parked in the lot at 608 Lake Street, had been struck. All three vehicles were severely damaged. The accused fled on foot from the scene and was tracked and located at 3:47 am by the Canine Unit in the area of McNabb Street and Shannon Road. When officers arrested the accused he was found in possession of a health card and an IPOD Nano that had been stolen from a vehicle earlier on Timothy Place. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The accused will be appearing in bail court this morning.

The following break and enter was reported yesterday:

1) A portable classroom at F H Clergue Public School on Weldon Avenue was entered some time during the evening hours on the 18th of September. It is not known what was taken.
