The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be participating with the US Coast Guard and other partner agencies in a full scale training exercise in the area of the St. Mary’s River and Top Sail Island in Bellevue Park on the 15th of September from approximately 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

There will be over 30 US and Canadian agencies involved with some 270 participants in this exercise.

The exercise is designed to evaluate the multi-agency, multi jurisdictional international response to large scale major security incident.

It will also test the capability of response personnel to detect, identify, monitor and respond to an incident of this nature.

During the training exercises, the public may observe several police and emergency vehicles with emergency lights and sirens activated in these areas. There is no cause for concern as this is only an exercise.

The exercise is not open to the public.

Female Youth Arrested for Assault:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 15 year-old female on the 13th of September at 9:20 am and charged her with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 13th of September at approximately 7:50 am hours the accused got into a verbal argument with her mother at their home and assaulted her. The accused is to appear in court on the 18th of October.

Male Arrested for Attempt Theft of Vehicle:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 53 year-old Lawrence Hendry of #303-41 Old Garden River Road yesterday morning and charged him with one count of attempt theft. It is alleged that on the 13th of September at approximately 8:13 am the accused attended in the parking lot of Sault Area Hospital and attempted to steal a vehicle. The incident was observed by security and captured on video surveillance cameras. The accused is to appear in court on the 17th of October.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enter Reports:

A construction trailer was broken into on a building site on Old Goulais Bay Road overnight on the 12th of September. Numerous tools were reported stolen including a Hilti laser lever and hammer drill, three pass load guns, a Makita skill saw, two Dewalt Drills and a Dewalt sawsall.
Copper wire was stolen from a construction site in the 700 block of Second Line East.

Mischief Reports:

A car on McFadden Avenue was keyed sometime overnight on the 12th of September.
