The following three persons will be appearing in bail court this morning:

1) 31 year-old John Penney of no fixed address was arrested on the 2nd of October at 12:45 pm on Wellington Street East and charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of flight from police, one count of mischief and four counts of breach of recognizance. It is alleged that on the 2nd of October at approximately 11 am city police observed the accused driving a red Pontiac vehicle on Bay Street near Brock Street. Officers were aware that this accused was wanted on several outstanding warrants for dangerous driving and breach of release documents. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the accused refused to pull over and a short pursuit was initiated. The accused drove the vehicle into a bushy area beside the railway tracks off Tancred Street, got out and fled on foot. Officers contained the area and the Canine Unit was called to assist in the search. The accused was tracked by the canine unit and was located hiding under a deck of a home on Wellington Street East. It is further alleged that the accused damaged the lattice of the deck when attempting to hide under it.

2) A 77 year-old male was arrested on the 2nd of October at 10:40 am at the city police station and charged with three counts of breach of a peace bond recognizance. It is alleged that on the 29th of September around 5:00 pm the accused followed his ex-wife on foot when she was walking in the downtown area. He made several attempts to talk to her and pulled on her clothing in attempts to get her to stop and talk. The accused is on a peace bond recognizance with conditions not to molest, harass, or communicate with the victim and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

3) At 3:23 pm on the 2nd of October a 13 year-old male youth was arrested by city police at the O.P.P. station where he was in custody and charged with one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach of a release document. It is alleged that on the 1st of October at approximately 4:45 pm the accused threatened to attend at a local high school and shoot it up. The threat was communicated to two other youths by way of computer via MSN instant messaging. One of the youths that received the message is a student at the high school. At the time he sent the message, the accused was on release conditions not to communicate with one of the youths.

Impaired Driving

49 year-old Deborah Houle of 951 Wellington Street East was arrested on the 2nd of October at 8:40 pm on Kohler Street and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over legal limit. It is alleged that on the 2nd of October at approximately 8:36 pm the accused was driving a Mercury Sable westbound on Wellington Street East when she almost struck a vehicle traveling eastbound. The accused continued on and struck a utility pole, reversed and then struck a no-parking sign on Kohler Street. A witness was able to take the car keys from the ignition before the accused attempted to drive the vehicle again. Police attended and found the accused to be under the influence of alcohol. There were no injuries reported and the vehicle received minor damage. The accused is to appear in court on the 5th of November.

The following break and enters were reported yesterday:

1) A garage on Letcher Street was entered some time overnight on the 1st of October. A bike was reported stolen.

2) A residence on Breton Road was entered on the 2nd of October around 10:44 pm. Nothing was reported stolen.

3) There was an attempt break and enter reported to a residence on River Road on the 2nd of October in the afternoon hours.

4) There was an attempt break and enter to a residence on Red Pine Drive on the 2nd of October. There was nothing reported taken.

Assistance in locating Trisha Fretwell and Dane Kress

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is attempting to locate two students traveling from Cambridge Ontario to Thunder Bay Ontario. They are overdue from arriving at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay Ontario. Trisha Fretwell contacted her family on Sunday the 30th of September 2007 from Sault Ste. Marie advising they had vehicle trouble. They may of spent the night in Sault Ste. Marie in order to have the vehicle repaired. Please contact D/Sgt. Sparling with any information on the whereabouts of these people.
