Male Arrested for Robbery at Liquidation World on Trunk Road:

56 year-old Bernard Agawa of 920 Frontenac Street was arrested on the 3rd of November at 1:14 pm on Trunk Road and charged with one count of robbery, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and two counts of possession of stolen property. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Liquidation World at 475 Trunk Road and took a pair of gloves and left the store on foot without paying. A store employee confronted the accused just a short distance away on Trunk Road and asked him for the gloves back. The accused pulled out a pocket style knife, unfolded it, pointed it at the employee and then walked away. Police were called and located the accused a short time later in a business parking lot on Trunk Road and arrested him without further incident. At the time of the incident the accused was in an intoxicated condition. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Female Youth Charged with Assault:

A 16 year-old female was arrested on the 3rd of November at 10:10 am at a local Youth Home and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 3rd of November while at the home, she assaulted a staff member. She is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Drug Related Offences after Search Warrant Executed at his Residence:

On the 3rd of November 2009 at 1:30 pm members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team executed a search warrant at 308 Huron Street, the residence of Doug Martin. During the course of the search, officers located a quantity of morphine tablets, a debt list, a digital scale, cannabis marijuana and a prohibited knife (open with centrifugal force). As a result, 46 year-old Douglas Martin was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. The estimated street value of the drugs seized was $275.00. The accused is to appear in court on the 7th of December.

Shoplifting Arrest:

42 year-old Lore-Lei Gabow of 235 Poplar Avenue was arrested on the 3rd of November at 6 pm at the Station Mall and charged with two counts of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 3rd of November at around 5:30 pm the accused attended at the Foot Locker Store in the Mall and stole a sweater. She was apprehended by store security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 14th of December.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enter Report:


A shed in the 500 block of Albert Street West was broken into sometime overnight on the 3rd of November. A 2003 9.9 Horse Power Mercury Outboard motor was stolen.

Theft Reports:

Vehicles on Moss Road, Hardiman Avenue and Grandmont Crescent were entered. Money, lottery tickets and sunglasses were reported stolen.

Home:

• Make your home appear occupied when you go out.
• Lock all doors and windows.
• Leave lights on and the radio playing.
• Keep your garage door closed and locked.
• Use timing devices to turn inside lights on and off.
• Lock all sheds.
• If you will be gone several days, arrange to have the mail and papers stopped or picked up.
• Inform your trusted neighbours you will be away and ask them to keep an eye on you residence.
• Half of all home burglaries occur during the day when alert neighbors could spot and report the thieves.

Vehicle:

• Never leave your car running unattended, even to dash into a business, store, etc.;
• Never leave any keys in the car or ignition, inside a locked garage, or in hide-a-key boxes;
• Always roll up your windows and lock the car, even if it is parked in front of your home;
• Never leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked. Put them in the trunk out of sight;
• Always park in high-traffic, well-lighted areas, when possible;
• Install a mechanical device that locks the steering wheel, column, or brakes. These devices will deter some criminals.
• Never leave personal identification documents, vehicle ownership title, or credit cards in your vehicle.
