The Sault Ste Marie Police Service responded to approx. 90 complaints yesterday – most were of a minor nature. DOMESTIC ASSAULT At approx. 1:00 AM this morning City Police were called to investigate a domestic dispute on Cathcart Street.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT
At approx. 1:00 AM this morning City Police were called to investigate a domestic dispute on Cathcart Street.

As a result of the investigation police determined that a 35-year-old male had assaulted his girlfriend, by punching her numerous times in the head. The assault resulted in the victim suffering some swelling to the left side of her head.

The accused was arrested and charged with Assault. He will be appearing in court on Jan 5th at 9:00 AM. Alcohol was involved in this incident.


THREE SHOPLIFTING EVENTS
Yesterday afternoon City Police were called to the Station Mall to investigate 3 unrelated shoplifting calls.

In one incident two young males, aged 17 and 14, went to Zellers and attempted to steal a CD, valued at approximately $18.00. They were observed by store security and arrested. Police charged both youths with Theft Under $ 5,000.00. They will be attending court on Dec. 30th at 9:30 AM.

While the police were in the store investigating this incident a second theft took place. This time two young females, aged 14 and 13, entered Zellers and attempted to steal 5 CDs, valued at approximately $100.00. They too were observed by security and police and arrested. They were both charged with Theft Under $5,000.00. They will be attending court on Jan. 20th at 9:30 AM.

The third theft took place at Stitches in the Station Mall. It is alleged that Ashley Budge, age 18 of 523 Brunswick Ave, stole a shirt valued at approximately $20.00. Store personnel observed her leaving the store with the shirt. At that time she was arrested and police were called. She will be appearing in court on Dec 29th at 9:00 AM on a charge of Theft Under $ 5,000.00.
