Late last evening a request was made by the Province to see if the number of citizens being evacuated from Kashechewan could be increased from 87 to 106. Members of the Sault Ste.
Late last evening a request was made by the Province to see if the number of citizens being evacuated from Kashechewan could be increased from 87 to 106. Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Emergency Planning Committee, the Red Cross and the Best Western Hotel Great Northern Road have confirmed with the Province that our Community would be able to accommodate 106 citizens. They evacuees are expected later this afternoon.

Outstanding Warrants

A 49-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested last evening on a number of outstanding warrants. The male was arrested last night and charged with one count of breach of a release order for being intoxicated when on a release condition not to consume alcohol. Officers received a call of the accused person being intoxicated in the downtown area. When officers queried the accused they learned that the male was wanted on warrants relating to 6 additional counts of breach of release order conditions including fail to attend court. One count of breach of conditions of a release order relates to a domestic matter therefore the name of the accused is not being released.

Male Charged with Assault Against Girlfriend

A 21-year old male will appear in bail court after being arrested just before 9 pm last night. It is alleged that the accused attended at his ex-girlfriends east end residence and assaulted her by punching her in the face. The male left the residence and the returned to the victims residence and entered her address by breaking a screen window. City Police were called and located the accused outside of the residence. The male was on probation at the time of the offence with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of break and enter with the intent to commit an offence and one count of breach of probation.

Male Charged with Theft

51-year old Dennis Theriault of 403-137 East Street will also appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on November 1st the accused attended in the Station Mall while intoxicated, which caught the attention of mall security. City Police were called and when the male was arrested officers located stolen items from Sears and from Laura Secord on the accused. Mr. Theriault has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation.

Breach of Probation

Yesterday afternoon it is alleged that two males got into a verbal argument which escalated to an assault. The incident occurred at the Station Mall. It is alleged that 18-year old Ronald Scott of 104 West Street punched the male victim in the face. The male received a minor injury to the head area. Mr. Scott has been charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in court on December 5th.

Break and Enter

A homeowner in the 100 block of Summit Avenue reported that sometime between October 31st at 4 pm and 9:30 am on the 1st of November someone cut the padlock on two shed door but it does not appear that anything was taken.

Paint Ball Incident

City Police received a report yesterday afternoon at 4:40 pm that someone had hit a house in the 100 block of Palace Drive with a paint ball leaving a mark on the siding.
