Two Charged with Assault 1) 48 year-old John Williamson of #3-134 Gore Street was arrested last night at around 8 pm and charged with one count of assault.
Two Charged with Assault

1) 48 year-old John Williamson of #3-134 Gore Street was arrested last night at around 8 pm and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 8th of May just after midnight the accused attended at a downtown residence of a female known to him, got into an argument with her and assaulted her by grabbing her around the neck and choking her and then pushing her to the ground. The victim attended at the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

2) A 41 year-old male was arrested at his downtown residence just before 11 pm last night and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his wife by grabbing her by the throat and throwing her to the ground.

Charged with Threatening & Damaging Property

A 34 year-old male was arrested at the city police station last night around 10:30 pm and charged with one count of threatening death or bodily harm and one count of threatening to damage property. It is alleged that on the 2nd of May the accused contacted his ex-girlfriend by phone and threatened to kill her. The accused also threatened to attend at her apartment and light it on fire. He is to appear in court on the 13th of June.

Caught Stealing From Sears

29 year-old Otis Williams of #6-33 Crystal Place was arrested at the Sears Store in the Station Mall yesterday around 2:30 pm and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused stole a shirt valued at $19.99. The accused was apprehended by store security and held for police. The accused is to appear in court on the 11th of June.

Arson Suspected

At around 9 pm last night Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services and Police Services responded to a fire at the Union Hall on Dennis Street. This fire is being treated as arson. Garbage under a wooden wheelchair access ramp was lit on fire causing the ramp and the north side of the building to catch fire. The fire was quickly contained by Fire Services. A witness reported observing a young female running from the scene. She is described as around 12 or 13 years of age with a slim build, long dark hair, possibly in a pony tail. She was wearing a maroon coloured t-shirt and blue jeans. Investigation Services are currently investigating this incident.

Break & Enter

There was one break and enter reported yesterday. A residence in the 100 block of Third Line East was entered sometime between 1:30 pm and 4 pm on the 8th of May. Jewellery and some money were stolen.

Car Accident

Yesterday morning at 9 am officers from Patrol Services attended at Gibb Street and Eastern Avenue for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A car being operated by a 17 year-old female was traveling northbound on Eastern Avenue and allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at Gibb Street and struck a car that was westbound on Gibb Street. The 38 year-old male driver of the vehicle that was struck was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles were severely damaged. The 17 year-old female was charged with disobey stop sign – fail to stop under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
