Motor Vehicle Collisions During Power Outage
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to five of six motor vehicle collisions that occurred during the power outage on the 7th of June.

Minor injuries were reported in two of the collisions that officers responded to. Three of the collisions were related to the drivers not taking the appropriate action at the intersection when the traffic lights were not functioning. Two of the collisions were as a result of the traffic congestion and the drivers not adjusting to traffic conditions. Four drivers were charged as a result of these collisions.

Police would like to remind the public that during power outages, motorists are to treat all intersections- controlled by traffic signal lights, as if they were four way stops, giving the right of way to the motorist on your right. Motorists should slow down, use extreme caution and be patient. Adjust your driving to traffic conditions.
