Two males arrested for theft from vehicles

At approx. 3:00 am this morning city police were called to the Parkview Court area to investigate a complaint of two males going through vehicles. When police arrived the suspects fled and the canine unit commenced a search. Two adult males were located in the area and arrested. During the search one of the suspects was injured by the police dog. The suspect is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries at the Sault Area Hospital. The Special Investigative Unit has been notified and will be attending to investigate the incident. As a result no further information on this incident can be released at this time.

Two persons arrested for thefts

Yesterday afternoon at approx. 2:10 pm city police arrested Gray Latvanen and Nicole Breton on charges of theft over $ 5,000.00 and theft under $ 5,000.00. It is alleged that on Saturday June 7th Gray Latvanen attended at the Sault College a computer monitor, valued at approx. $ 229.00. It is further alleged that on Monday June 9th accused Latvanen and Breton both attended at Sault College and stole two computer monitors valued at approx. $ 3,000.00 each. Police investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects on Tuesday June 10th.
Gray Latvanen, age 35, of 28 Oakbine Cres. and Nicole Breton, age 33, of 193 Cloudy Lake Rd., Echo Bay are each charged with one count of theft under $ 5,000.00 and one count of theft over $ 5,000.00.
Nicole Breton is further charged with another two counts of theft under $ 5,000.00. It is alleged that on May 10th the accused stole $ 51.00 and $ 20.00 worth of fuel from Wardlaw Fuels. Both accused will be appearing in court on July 14th.

Male arrested for obstructing police

Yesterday evening city police arrested a 57-year-old male and charged him with one count of obstruct police, one count of breach of probation and one count of assisting a young person to breach a condition of sentence under the Young Offenders Act. It is alleged that on June 2nd the accused obstructed police in their investigation of a missing person by not advising the officers of the missing person’s location. It is further alleged that on June 2nd the accused communicated with a person he was not to communicate with as part of a probation order. and that the accused assisted a young person breach their probation order conditions by transporting the young person to a location the youth was prohibited from attending.

Male arrested for breach of an undertaking

On Tuesday June 10th city police arrested 31-year-old Jason Smith, of 28 Rushmere Rd. and charged him with one count of breach of an undertaking. It is alleged that Mr. Smith was found in an intoxicated condition while on release conditions that he not consume alcohol. He will be appearing in court on July 14th.

Break and enter

A residence in the 300 block of Albert St. W. was entered yesterday. Thieve(s) stole a play station and several games.

Mischief

A residence in the 100 block of Sunnydale Rd was damaged by a pellet gun. Victim reports that the front door to the residence was damaged by several pellets.

At approx. 1:00 am this morning a resident in the 100 block of Pilgrim St. reports that their vehicle window was damaged. A male suspect was seen fleeing toward Herrick St. Suspect is described as Male, tall, slim, wearing a light coloured hoodie.

Thefts

At approx. 12:30 yesterday afternoon city police were called to the Art Gallery of Algoma regarding a theft of a wallet. A male person was seen taking a wallet and then fleeing. The suspect is described as: Male, white, 20-25 year of age, short blond hair, goatee, wearing a dark t-shirt and a long camouflage shirt.
