On the 24th of July at around noon the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which is comprised of members of the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, the Sault Ste Marie Police Service, the RCMP and d the OPP North East Region with the assistance of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Canine Unit arrested two males in relation to drug related offences.

25 year-old Lorne Guilbeault of #1-385 Cathcart Street has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified by court order, one count of fail to appear court and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

27 year-old Brian Gibson of #212 -769 Pine Street has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon. He is to appear in court on the 10th of September.

It is alleged that the accused Lorne Guilbeault was involved in a drug transaction involving Brian Gibson around 11:20 am on the 24th of July. The transaction took place from Guilbeault’s vehicle in the Charles Street area and involved the selling of cocaine. When police stopped the vehicle on Charles Street, the driver, Guilbeault fled on foot. The Canine Unit initiated a track. Brian Gibson, the passenger remained in the vehicle. The Joint Forces Unit continued their investigation, searched the vehicle and located a switchblade knife, three baggies of cocaine and one baggy of crack cocaine. When Gibson was searched he was found to be in possession of a small baggie of cocaine. Gibson was arrested. The accused Guilbeault was tracked by the Canine Unit and located a short time later under a rear deck on Kehoe Avenue where he was arrested. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of percocet and a quantity of cash. When officers ran a check on him they discovered he was wanted on outstanding warrants for driving while disqualified, possession of a controlled substance and fail to attend court.

Officers seized the knife and approximately 2.7 grams of cocaine, 0.8 grams of crack cocaine and one percocet tablet with a total street value of approximately $400.00.

Youth Charged with Shoplifting & Mischief

A 15 year-old female was arrested at 2:40 pm at Rome’s Independent Grocer on Great Northern Road and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that the accused attended at Rome’s and stole some chocolate bars valued at approximately $9.00. She was apprehended by store security and held for police. When police attended and ran a check on her they discovered she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for mischief that involved an incident that took place on the 5th of May 2007 when it is alleged that the accused attempted to set fire to an empty playhouse on the Campbell Avenue area. The accused lit some newspaper on fire and threw it into the play house. She was not successful in setting the fire. She is to appear in court on the 28th of August.

Breach, Trafficking & More

41 year-old Frank Raimondi of 37 Hill Street was arrested at 1:40 pm on Bay Street on outstanding warrants that involved breaching court release documents in relation to communicating with persons that he was directed by the courts not to, failing to comply with curfew conditions, possessing drug trafficking or paraphernalia or drug consuming paraphernalia and communicating or associating with persons that have a criminal record. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Wal-Mart Employee Charged with Theft Under $5,000

21 year-old Joseph Combden of 448 Bush Street was arrested at the Wal –Mart Store on Great Northern Road yesterday just before 2 pm and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that the accused an employee and while working at the Wal-Mart Store on the 23rd of July stole approximately $500,00 in merchandise consisting of an Acer computer monitor, a Panasonic telephone and a Phillips power bar. It is alleged that the accused was captured on the store video surveillance at the completion of his shift. The accused is to appear in court on the 27th of August.

The following break and enters were reported yesterday:

1) A residence on Pim Street was entered after 11:30 pm on the 23rd of July to 10:30 am on the 24th. Some money was reported stolen.

2) A residence on Knox Avenue was entered between 4 pm on the 23rd of July and 4pm on the 24th OF July. A computer and monitor were reported stolen.
