Two Arrests for Bail Court Appearance Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20 year-old Matthew Lewis of no fixed address at a downtown residence last evening on several outstanding warrants in relation to a number of incidents.
Two Arrests for Bail Court Appearance
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20 year-old Matthew Lewis of no fixed address at a downtown residence last evening on several outstanding warrants in relation to a number of incidents. He was charged with two counts of fail to appear court, one count of breach of a release document, three counts of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of possession or use of a stolen credit card and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 56 year-old female yesterday afternoon and charged her with three counts of assault and on count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that on the 18th and 19th of July the accused assaulted her husband by kicking him and punching him several times during domestic disputes at their residence. It is further alleged that the accused struck the victim with an umbrella. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 58 year-old Ivan Mackenzie of 17 River Road Heyden, Ontario on the 19th of July at his residence and charged him with one count of criminal harassment. It is alleged that on the 18th of July the accused left an obscene message on the answering machine of a person known to him. The accused had been previously warned about harassing the victim in the past. He is to appear in court on the 22nd of August.

Shoplifting Incidents
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested three persons yesterday in relation to shoplifting: All were charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and are to appear in court on the 22nd of August:

1) 23 year-old Edward Murray of #2-482 Cathcart Street arrested at 10:00 am at Zellers Station Mall for allegedly stealing 13 chocolate bars from the store yesterday morning.

2) 54 year-old Michael Boudreau of 314 Albert Street East arrested yesterday afternoon at Zellers in the Station Mall for allegedly stealing a bottle of Listerine.

3) 46 year-old Daniel Barr of #206-844 Queen Street East arrested at 4:05 pm at Zellers Station Mall for allegedly stealing a bottle of mouthwash.

Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 47 year-old Leonard Nolan of 124 Lasalle Court last evening on an outstanding warrant. He was wanted for allegedly failing to appear court on the 28th of February. He was charged with one count of fail to appear for court and is now to appear in court on the 22nd of August.

Attempted Robbery Under Investigation
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to an attempted robbery at the Station Mall Zellers Pharmacy yesterday at approximately 11:52 am. It is alleged that a lone male entered the store with wearing sunglasses, a skeleton/skull type mask on and placed a note on the counter. The clerk exchanged some words with the suspect and he left with the note, empty handed. No injuries were reported. Police searched the area with negative results. The suspect was described as in his late 30’s, early 40’s. He was approximately 5’11, slim build with short dark hair and a goatee. He was wearing sunglasses, a black and white ball cap, a dark long sleeve shirt, dark pants and white runners.

Two Purse Thefts Reported
A purse was stolen from a vehicle that was parked at a local business in the 500 block of Wellington Street West around 5:52 pm yesterday. A male was observed with the stolen purse and fled when two persons attempted to apprehend him. The male dropped the purse and fled. He could not be located by police on their arrival. Officers also took a report of a stolen purse from an office inside the building. It is not known at this time if both thefts are connected. The male youth was wearing a white and blue t-shirt and white flowered shorts.

Break and Enter Report
A residence on Churchill Avenue was entered on the 19th of July between 8 pm and 11 pm. A Notebook Laptop was stolen.

Thefts
• A wallet left inside a vehicle parked on Pardee Avenue was stolen.
• Items were stolen from a parade float that was left parked at a local business in the 500 block of Bay Street. Items stolen included: two solar panels, a five foot high wind turbine and three six foot potted plants.
• Copper wire was reported stolen form a construction site in the 700 block of Great Northern Road.
• A golf cart was stolen from a residence property on the Gagnon Road.
• A trailer plate was stolen on Alexandra Street.

Mischief Reports
• Several solar lights were removed and smashed on the roadway in front of a residence on Ford Street.
• A peep hole of an apartment on Old Garden River Road was vandalized.

Motorcycle Collision: Police Seeking Driver of Involved Vehicle
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a motorcycle collision at the intersection of Queen Street East and Church Street at 5:28 pm last night. The male driver of the motorcycle allegedly turned left from Queen Street East onto Church Street in front of a red coloured vehicle. The driver of the red car was able to stop to avoid the collusion, but the driver of the motorcycle lost control, skidded, struck the curb and fell off the bike. He received minor injuries as a result. The driver of the car left the scene before police arrived. Officers investigating the collision, and attempting to complete the report, are asking the driver of the car to please contact Traffic Service at 705-949-6300-Extesion 348.
