Child Pornography Arrests Beginning in October 2008, officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Services Technological Crime Unit have undertaken a proactive investigation into persons possessing and distributing child pornography.

Beginning in October 2008, officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Services Technological Crime Unit have undertaken a proactive investigation into persons possessing and distributing child pornography.
As a result of this investigation, search warrants were developed for suspects in both Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie.

On Monday January 05, 2009 acting on information from the Sault Ste Marie Technological Crime Unit Officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit executed a search warrant on a Sudbury area residence.

On Tuesday January 06, 2009, officers from Sault Ste Marie Police Service Technological Crime Unit, Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit, and members of the Ontario Provincial Police Child

Sexual Exploitation Section with assistance of the Street Team and the Emergency Services Unit executed 4 separate search warrants within this city several computers and numerous data were seized.

As result of the following three males were arrested:

1) Ronald Byron Vye, age 62 of 606 McNabb Street Apt#1, Sault Ste. Marie
2) Guy Russell RENAULT, age 55 311 Maretta Street, Sault Ste. Marie
3) Brian Gringel, age 54 of Sudbury

All three have been charged with the following offences:
1) Possession of Child Pornography
2) Make available Child Pornography

Ronald Vye and Guy Renault are to appear in bail court today.

Since this investigation began 7 separate search warrants for the seizure of child pornography have been executed including one in Sudbury.

A total of 5 arrests have been made.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children On-Line from Sexual Exploitation. This project is possible because of a funding grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.


Two Persons Arrested after Search Warrant Executed at their Residence:

On the 6th of January 2009, at approximately 10:25 am, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Street Team, Canine Unit and Emergency Services Unit executed a search warrant at 4 Alpine Street. During the course of the search, officers located 1292 prescription medications of various brands and dosages, as well as medications and packaging believed to be stolen in the Rexall Pharmacy robbery on the 1st of January. Various drug paraphernalia and packaging materials were also located. Further, officers located $600.00 in Canadian Currency which was seized as offence related property. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $13,625.00

As a result, 29 year-old Derek Roberts and 27 year-old Shannon Boyer, both of 4 Alpine Avenue, were each charged with 7 counts of Possessing a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. They are both to appear in court on the 26th of January.
