3 Arrested for Slingshot Incident

Yesterday afternoon just before 2 pm city police issued a Media Release appealing to the public for witnesses or any persons that could provide any information to assist them in an investigation into mischief and assault incidents that involved males using a slingshot. Police immediately started receiving numerous calls with information regarding the suspect vehicle. At approximately 2:44 pm police received a call from a witness that advised that the vehicle was in a parking lot of a business in the 200 block of Albert Street East with two males inside. Police immediately attended and checked the vehicle that did match the description of the suspect vehicle used in both incidents. While speaking with the two males inside, a third male exited the building and approached the vehicle. It is alleged that officers continuing the investigation quickly determined that the three males were responsible for the mischief and assault incidents that they had been investigating and arrested them. Two slingshots and several marbles were found inside the vehicle. Police also learned that the same males were responsible for more similar incidents that occurred over the past week.

It is alleged that the three were responsible for the following incidents:

• On the 18th of January at approximately 1:10 pm a female that was standing just outside of the Zellers store at Station Mall was also struck in the leg area with a marble.
• On the19th of January, a male standing outside a local Queen Street Business was struck in the wrist area around 4:25 pm.
• Two windows of the ATS Bell World business on Bruce Street were smashed with the marbles, one in the early morning hours on the 19th of January, the second on the 19th of January at around 4:40 pm.
• A front window of a residence in the 1000 block of Wellington Street East was broken with one of the marbles.

As a result the following males were all charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and three counts of mischief under $5,000.00 and will be appearing in bail court this mooring.

1) 19 year-old Hamza Azizi of 16 Crawford Street in Bruce Mines.
2) 57 year-old Richard Drake of 16 Crawford Street, Bruce Mines.
3) A 17 year-old male youth.

Police would again like to thank the public for all their assistance in this investigation.

Male Arrested for Assault at Station Mall:

24 year-old Samuel Corbett of #123-345 St. Georges Avenue East was arrested on the 20th of January at 1:30 pm at the Station Mall and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 20th of January just after 1 pm the accused assaulted a male know to him that was walking in the Station Mall. The victim was punched in the face and received non-life threatening injuries as a result. At the time of the offence the accused was on conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He is to appear in court on the 23rd of February.

Female Landlord Arrested for Assault:

64 year-old Amelia Sicoli of 40 Cabot Crescent was arrested on the 20th of January at 6:15 pm at the Police Services building and charged with one count of assault and one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling house. It is alleged that on the 20th of January around 5 pm the accused attended at an apartment on John Street that she is the landlord of, entered without permission and pushed a male person inside that was over visiting the tenant. No injuries were reported. She is to appear in court on the 2cnd of March.

Three Domestic Related Arrests:

1) A 20 year-old male was arrested on the 20th of January at 5 pm at the police station and charged with three counts of assault and two counts of breach of a release document. It is alleged that since June of 2008 until now, the accused assaulted a female that he had been in a common law relationship with on several occasions while together. The assaults included the victim being thrown against walls and floors, being dragged up stairs, being elbowed, kicked and being slapped. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assaults that mostly took place at their residence. The accused has also communicated with the victim, since their relationship has ended, numerous times by phone and computer and was on a recognizance order not to communicate with her. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

2) A 24 year-old male was arrested on the 20th of January at 6 pm at the Sault Airport on an outstanding domestic warrant and charged with one count of causing bodily harm and one count of threatening death or bodily harm. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

3) A 45 year-old male was arrested on the 20th of January at 11:05 am at the Court House on an outstanding domestic warrant and charged with one count of assault. He is to appear in bail court this morning.
