Espanola Resident Picked up on Outstanding Warrant Officers from the Espanola Police Service arrested 24-year old Amanda Peltier of Manitoulin Island yesterday afternoon. The accused was wanted on an arrest warrant from the Sault Ste.
Espanola Resident Picked up on Outstanding Warrant

Officers from the Espanola Police Service arrested 24-year old Amanda Peltier of Manitoulin Island yesterday afternoon. The accused was wanted on an arrest warrant from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for one count of theft under and one count of fail to appear in court. The incidents stem from 2002 and 2003. Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended in Espanola and brought the accused back to Sault Ste. Marie. She will appear in bail court this morning.

Assault Charges Laid

20-year old Marc Major of 284 Second Avenue was arrested yesterday afternoon and charge with one count of assault. It is alleged that on January 5th the accused assaulted a male by punching him and breaking his glasses. The accused will appear in court on February 5th.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Yesterday between 6 am and 5 pm officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received 10 reports of motor vehicle collisions. There were no injuries in any of the collisions. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would again like to remind motorists to remember to adjust your driving to the winter road conditions.

Two break and enters were reported in the last 24 hour period:

1) Between 10 pm on the 8th of January and 1 pm on the 9th of January a home on St. Andrews Terrace was entered. Items taken include a cordless drill, a green Poulin Pro chainsaw and a Karaoke machine.

2) Between 9 pm on the 8th of January and 5 pm on the 9th of January a garage on Taskar Drive was entered. Thieves made off with an undetermined amount of Smirnoff Ice coolers.

Winter Safety Sessions in Elementary Schools

Officers from the Community Services Section provide winter safety sessions to the children in elementary schools. However, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind parents to speak to their children about the dangers of tobogganing in high traffic areas as well. Officers attended on Pine Street last evening after receiving reports of kids sliding into traffic. What may seem like fun to your child could have deadly results. Remind them not to slid into areas were vehicles may be such as the roadway or parking lots.
