Male Arrested for Breaching Release Documents and Drug Possession:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team Unit arrested 25 year-old Eric Richer of #102-721 Second Line West on the 21st of February at 5:40 pm in a downtown convenience store parking lot.  It is alleged that officers observed the accused in a vehicle and at the time the accused was bound by a condition of a recognizance order with a 24 hours curfew, except for work purposes. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a small amount of codeine.  The accused was also on a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be good.  He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Domestic Related Arrest: 

A 37 year-old female was arrested in relation to a domestic related assault on her common law boyfriend.  She allegedly assaulted her partner during a verbal argument yesterday at their residence.  She is charged with one count of assault and is to appear in bail court this morning. 

Youth Arrested for Break and Enter and Breaching Probation Conditions:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service completed an investigation into a Laura Street residence break and enter that occurred on the 4th of July 2011.  As a result, a 16 year-old male youth was charged yesterday afternoon with one count of break and enter and one count of breach of probation.  He is to appear in court on the 27th of March. 

Youth Arrested on Outstanding Warrant:

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 16 year-old male youth on an outstanding warrant last night and charged him with one count of fail to appear court.  He is to appear in court on the 20th of March. 

Snowmobile Safety and Enforcement Initiative Results in Numerous Charges:

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service Snowmobile Unit conducted enforcement throughout the city over the Family Day long weekend to ensure that snow machines were being operated in safe manner and in compliance with City of Sault Ste Marie Bylaws, the Highway Traffic Act and the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.

As a result of the enforcement 121 snow machines were checked resulting in 12 Provincial Offence Notices being issued.

Snowmobilers are reminded that they are required to have proof of registration, insurance and license when operating a motorized snow vehicle.  Operators must also pay attention to trail permit requirements, bylaw restrictions and ensure they are operating their machines in the designated areas. 

Break and Enter Reports:

  • A residence on Northland Road was broken into sometime over the past two weeks.  Tools were reported stolen. 
  • A Station Mall business was broken into sometime during the evening on the 20th of February.  A cash box was reported stolen.
  • Two attempt break and enter and mischief incidents were reported at businesses on Great Northern Road and on Bay Street.
