City Police were kept busy yesterday investigating 18 motor vehicle collisions. Please remember to adjust your driving habits in order to give yourself enough time to come to a stop. Intersections have become slippery and vehicles are sliding when coming to a stop.

Ride Program

The Sault Ste Marie R.I.D.E Program was in operation yesterday afternoon. 439 vehicles were checked and 3 tickets were issued in relation to seatbelts. Police would like to remind drivers and passengers to ensure they wear their seatbelts properly and ensure that little ones are properly fastened also.

Male Charged with Mischief

Early this morning Police arrested 31-year-old Jeffrey Hill of 37 Princeton Drive. It is alleged that while working as a D.J. and consuming alcohol at the River Rock the accused became agitated towards patrons and staff members of the River Rock. Mr. Hill began fighting with patrons and staff members had to intervene. He refused to leave the establishment and also damaged property belonging to the River Rock. City Police were called and arrested the accused. While in custody the accused urinated on the cell floors and by stuffing a blanket into the toilet he caused it to flood. The accused has been charged with 2 counts of Mischief Under $5000 and 1 count of Causing a Disturbance by Fighting. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 23rd.

Breach of Release Document

49-year-old Peter Mattalo of 55 Johnson Avenue has been charged with 2 counts of Criminal Harassment and 1 count of Breach of Release Document. It is alleged that the accused did make harassing phone calls to individuals known to him. The accused did breach his release document that stated keep the peace and be of good behavior. Peter Mattalo will be appearing in court this morning.

Motor Vehicle Collision

When City Police responded to a motor vehicle collision this morning, they arrested the driver. 43-year-old Joseph Marceau of 12 LaChaumiere Place has been charged with 1 count of Impaired Driving. It is alleged that Mr. Marceau was driving a 1985 dodge pickup on Wellington Street just east of the Pine Street intersection. The accused lost control and struck a snow bank on the south side of the roadway. When Police arrived they observed obvious signs of alcohol impairment. Police arrested the accused and transported him to the station. Joseph Marceau will appear in court on January 23rd.
