Domestic Related Incident:

The only bail court appearance arrest is for a domestic related incident. A 45 year-old male was arrested on the 16th of December at 11:43 am at his residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of assault peace officer. It is alleged that on the 16th of December around 11:30 pm the accused got into a verbal argument with his common law spouse at their residence and assaulted her by grabbing her around the throat, punching her in the face and pulling her hair. Police were called and when officers were attempting to arrest the accused he kicked one of them. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.

Impaired and Disqualified Driver Arrested:

44 year-old James Laplante of #1-151 Gore Street was arrested on the 16th of December at 2:50 pm on Maple Street and charged with one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified, one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that around 2:49 pm yesterday afternoon city police received information regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Maple Street. When officers arrived in the area they observed a Dodge pickup truck that was stuck in the snow bank at the end of a driveway on Maple Street and the driver was attempting to drive the vehicle out. When officers checked on the driver, the accused, they found him to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers further discovered that he was disqualified from driving. The accused is to attend court on the 26th of January, 2009.

Male Shoplifter Wanted on Outstanding Warrant Arrested:

50 year-old Russell Barton of 282 Albert Street East was arrested on the 16th of December at 6 pm and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 and one count of fail to appear for prints. It is alleged that on the 16th of December around 5:50 pm the accused attended at the Soo Mill Store on Great Northern Road and stole a tub and shower faucet set. He was apprehended by store staff and held for police. When police attended and ran a check on the male they discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for prints from the 2nd of December on a previous charge. He is to appear in court on the 26th of January.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enter:


- The Fresh Clothing Business on Queen Street East was entered sometime overnight on the 15th of December. Several pairs of jeans were reported stolen.

Thefts:

- A gym bag was stolen out of the male’s locker room at the YMCA yesterday afternoon between the hours of 12:30 – 1:30 pm. The gym bag contained squash rackets, a cell phone and clothing.
- A vehicle parked on Talon Avenue was entered sometime overnight on the 15th of December. Traveller’s cheques, cash and identification were reported stolen.
