PENALTY BOX NETS TWO On August 19th, 2003 at approximately 11:20 a.m., Police officers were called to a west end location in regards to an assault where a disagreement with the victim escalated to physical violence.

On August 19th, 2003 at approximately 11:20 a.m., Police officers were called to a west end location in regards to an assault where a disagreement with the victim escalated to physical violence.

The police investigation revealed that a 37-year-old male and a 15-year-old male assaulted the victim by punching him several times, hit him with a hockey stick and a shiny metal-like object. No serious injuries were sustained.

Both were arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. The adult involved will attend court on September 22 and the young person will attend court in late September.


DRUG ARRESTS
On August 19th, 2003 at approximately 1:00 p.m., police officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Huron Street. Police subsequently located one cannabis marijuana plant being grown in a back room, a five-gram vial with 1/2 gram of cannabis resin, (hash oil) and four cannabis resin splifs, (rolling papers with smears of hash oil).
Also located were two pills believed to be codeine.

Melissa McClelland, age 18, and Christian Fox, age 21, both of 314 Huron Street have been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and production of a controlled substance. A street value has yet to be determined. Both will appear in court the 29 Sept. 2003.


PLEASE PAY CASHIER
On August 19th, 2003 Howard Stevens age 57 of 468 Frontenac Street, allegedly stole items from a local grocery store. He was observed by store security concealing the items on his person and leaving the store.

Police officers attended and continued the arrest and charged him with theft. He will appear in court the 29th of September.


B & E?S A BEAUTY
Police officers were kept busy in the early hours yesterday answering break and enters to three local beauty parlors in the Churchill Plaza.

Other break and enters included residences in the 0-100 block of Wellington Street East and the 400 block of Queen Street East. It is unsure at this time what items have been stolen.


PEDESTRIANS HAVE RIGHT-OF-WAY
City police investigated several motor vehicle accidents.

At 9:45 a.m. Ellen Laforge, age 40, was crossing Albert Street East at Bruce Street, westbound in the cross walk, when she was struck by a vehicle being driven by Kenneth Hagen age 74 of 811 Pine Street who was turning northbound on Bruce St.

Laforge was taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries. Hagen was charged with failing to yield to pedestrian under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.


AMBULANCE CALLED
At approximately 4:00 p.m., Denise Coudert, age 49 of 115 Leo Street, was charged with failing to drive in marked lane under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario when the vehicle she was driving, a 2002 Ford Sedan, went off the road on Queen Street East in the 1000 block, rolled over and hit a utility pole.

The pole and vehicle both received major damage. She was transported to hospital by ambulance and treated for her injuries.
