Keep The Nets Off The Road

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received several complaints about basketball nets being on or near the roadway. When these nets are on the road or hang out onto the road it becomes a hazard for a number of City vehicles. City Police have received reports from the City Board of Works staff that a couple of these nets have already been snagged by refuse collectors. While homeowners may think it is fine to have their basketball nets out onto the roadway it can be dangerous and it also violates a City By-law. City By-law 69-150 section 12 covers this area, also known as encumbering streets, and this also carries a fine that ranges from $25 to $1,000.
