Wanted man arrested after employee punched: police

Police say the accused took several items from a Great Northern Road business without paying

One person faces assault and robbery charges after police say an employee was punched by a person attempting to leave a Great Northern Road business without paying for several items.

Officers responded to the incident on Thursday morning and located the suspect a short time later on Chapple Avenue.

"The accused also had a warrant for their arrest in connection with an assault on Dec. 31, 2023, where [it is alleged that] the accused punched someone known to them in the 0-100 block of Chapple Avenue causing minor physical injuries," says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Adam Combs, 36, is charged with:

    •    Robbery with violence
    •    Assault
    •    Failure to comply with probation order x4
    •    Failure to attend court as per undertaking
    •    Failure to comply with undertaking

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Combs is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
