VIDEO: Tearful reunion for Ruby Kerr and her family

Missing for more than 24 hours, 11-year-old Sault girl was found safe on Saturday; 'She’s going to have a great story for the rest of her life about how she survived'

Endings don’t get any happier than this.

Missing for more than 24 hours after vanishing Friday morning, 11-year-old Ruby Kerr was found safe on Saturday afternoon and reunited with her grateful parents.

SooToday reporter Kenneth Armstrong was on scene for the emotional reunion at St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre.

"We're so grateful," said Ivan Kerr, Ruby's father, shortly after his daughter exited the OPP helicopter and ran to her family. "What a Mother's Day gift."

The Grade 6 student had hiked approximately 9 km north of the Goulais Avenue learning centre before falling down an embankment, her dad said.

“She tore up her legs pretty good, she went into a lake almost up to her chest,” he said. “She ended up sleeping in the dirt on the side of a trail. She’s tough. She’s going to have a great story for the rest of her life about how she survived.”
