Two facing charges following multiple break and enter incidents

It is alleged that the accused persons broke into several businesses

Officers with the Break and Enter Unit and Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have arrested 30-year-old Michelle Heilbronn and 38-year-old David Cake, both of no fixed address, in relation to multiple break and enter incidents in Sault Ste. Marie.

It is alleged that on Aug. 12, 2017, the accused David Cake entered a business in the 100 block of Queen Street East by forcing a door open. Once inside, the accused stole $900 worth of merchandise and fled the scene.

Later on Aug. 12, both of the accused persons allegedly entered a business in the 300 block of Wellington Street West by forcing the rear door. Once inside, they stole $1,000 worth of merchandise and left the area.

On Aug. 14, 2017 just after 2 a.m., David Cake allegedly attended a business in the 400 block of Trunk Road where he forced a door open. Once the door opened, an audible alarm caused the accused to flee the area.

Later, just after 3 a.m., the accused allegedly attended another business in the 100 block of Churchill Boulevard where he forced a door open. Officers quickly attended and the accused was located by officers hiding in an area of bushes a short distance away.

Upon his arrest, the accused was found to be in possession of a stolen motor vehicle from Kingston, Ont. that was parked in the area. In addition, a small amount of a substance believed to be cocaine was found on his person.

Just after 2 p.m. on Aug. 14, the accused, Michelle Heilbronn allegedly attended a business in the 100 block of Queen Street East where she stole a motor vehicle valued at $30,000 and left the scene. That vehicle was later located abandoned in the downtown area on Aug.15, 2017.

On Aug. 17, 2017, officers located and arrested the second accused, Michelle Heilbronn. She was located by patrol officers in the downtown area and was taken into custody. Once in custody, she was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and morphine.

Officers continued the investigation and on Aug. 21, the two accused were arrested on charges relating to a break and enter on Aug. 13, 2017. It is alleged that just before 8 a.m., the two accused persons attempted to enter a business in the 100 block of Trunk Road by forcing a door open.

They caused $1,000 in damage to the door before leaving the scene without gaining entry. 

Mr. Cake has been charged with:

  • Five counts of break and enter
  • One count of attempt break and enter
  • Six counts of breach of probation
  • One count of possession of a controlled substance
  • One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • One count of theft under $5,000
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime
  • Two counts of possession of break in instruments

Ms. Heilbronn has been charged with:

  • Two counts of break and enter
  • One count of attempt break and enter
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime
  • One count of theft over $5,000
  • One count of possession of break in instruments
  • Five counts of breach of probation
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance

Both will appear in bail court today.
