Two charged with impaired driving

On March 17, 2019 2019 officers with the Patrol Services division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 19-year-old Jack Duplin of Parkewood Drive for impaired driving.

In the early morning hours of March 17, 2019 officers observed a vehicle in the snow bank on Black Road with a lone male standing outside the driver side door. Officers asked the man if he was alright, the accused answered slowly and police observed him to be unsteady on his feet, and having a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

At that time officers determined his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. He was taken into custody and refused to give a breath sample.

He was charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and one count of refusing to provide a breath sample. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29, 2019.

On March 17, 2019 2019 officers with the Patrol Services division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 21-year-old Alex Weir of Old Goulais Bay Road for impaired driving.

On the morning of March 17, 2019 officers observed a vehicle driving northbound on People’s Road swerving into southbound lanes, nearly striking the cruiser.

Police conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the accused, determined his speech was slurred, his eyes were red and glossy and there was an odor of alcohol coming from his breath.

Roadside breath tests were administered and both results were over the legal limit. The accused was taken into custody and charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and one count of blood alcohol content over 80. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29, 2019.
