Two arrested after assault victim struck with tire iron: Police

Sault Police have arrested two individuals after it is alleged that two victims were assaulted in a parking lot on Northern Avenue early this morning.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that one of the victims was struck with a tire iron.

Full text of that news release follows:

On Aug. 11, 2020, officers with Patrol Services arrested 33-year-old Melissa Plourde for assault and 45-year-old Dustin Sayers for assault with a weapon.

At 2:01 a.m. [it is alleged that] the two accused attended a parking lot in the 200 block of Northern Avenue East. An altercation took place with two victims, and at this time Ms. Plourde struck one victim and Mr. Sayers struck another victim with a tire iron. Both victims sustained minor injuries.

Police received a complaint regarding the incident and upon responding observed the two accused leaving the area in a vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop. The two accused were arrested.

Ms. Plourde is charged with assault and Mr. Sayers is charged with assault with a weapon. They are both scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 5, 2020.
