Incident on St. Georges Ave

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is currently investigation an incident that occurred last evening in the St. Georges Avenue area just before 9 pm. A male was walking in the area when he thought he heard a female requesting help from inside a vehicle. As the male approached the car a male passenger brandished a gun and the vehicle left the area. There were 4 persons in the car. The vehicle is described as a black 4-door car, possibly a Toyota, with tinted windows. There was a luggage rack on the trunk of the car. The male passenger is described as being in his 20’s, white, wearing a black and white bandana, a white hoodie with writing on the front and black baggy pants. If you have any information regarding this vehicle or the male, contact City Police at 949-6300 immediately and do not approach the male or vehicle. If you know who this person is or the vehicle involved but wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 942-7867 or 1-800-222-TIPS. If your information leads to an arrest you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2000.

Anyone Witness This Accident?

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Traffic Section is requesting the public’s assistance in regards to a motor vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Bay Street and Brock Street. Around 5:25 pm yesterday a car operated by 48-year old Cheryl Maidra of 278 Case Road was traveling southbound on Brock Street. A van operated by 26-year old Melanie Tammi of 584 McNabb Street was traveling eastbound on Bay Street. The two vehicles collided. No one was injured in the collision. The car received moderate damage and the van received light damage. Traffic Services is continuing their investigation into this collision and if you witnessed this collision you are asked to contact the City Police at 949-6300.

Male Charged with Criminal Harassment

A 43-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested last evening. It is alleged that between September 17th and 18th the accused left several messages for his ex-girlfriend on her cell phone, sent a number of messages via MSN and also left her a number of handwritten notes. It is also alleged that on the 17th of September the accused broke into the victim’s residence and drank a couple of bottles of beer. The accused has been charged with one count of criminal harassment and one count of break and enter.

Bear Sighting at Finn Hill

Last evening around 8 pm City Police attended in the area of the bottom of Finn Hill in regards to a bear. The bear was gone, but the City Police would like to remind citizens not to leave food out for the bears and not to approach them.

Breach of a Release Document

Yesterday afternoon 49-year old Caleb Perreault of B-1584 Wellington Street East allegedly stole 2 large boxes of chicken from a delivery van that was parked in front of a downtown restaurant. Witnesses followed the accused and called City Police, who then found the accused in the possession of the stolen food. A query of the accused revealed that he was on a release order with conditions to notify a change of address and had failed to do so. Mr. Perreault has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of a release document. The accused will appear in court on October 11th.


Stolen Bike

Officers from Investigation Services continue their investigation into a bike that was taken from a youth in the area of the Mac’s Mart at Pine and McNabb, which occurred on September 15th around 5 pm. It is alleged that a male described as being in his 50’s to 60’s, with a scruffy beard and a plaid jacket, took a 12 speed maroon supercycle from the youth. The male was seen putting the bike into the back of a burgundy Ford Aerostar. City Police are asking the driver of the van involved in the incident to contact them. Also, if you were in the area and witnessed the incident please contact the City Police as well.

Break and Enter

Yesterday during the day time hours thieves broke into a residence in the 100 block of Donna Drive. The culprits made off with jewellery, alcohol, electronics and a game boy system. If you know who is responsible for this crime contact City Police at 939-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867.

Mischief at the Mount

Yesterday morning City Police received a report of mischief to Mount St. Joseph College at 100 Ontario Avenue. Sometime over the weekend culprits spray-painted several graffiti messages along a wall. If you know who is responsible for this senseless crime, contact Crime Stoppers or City Police.
