Drowning On October 25th just before shortly before 9 am a 9-1-1 call was received regarding a male falling out of a boat and into the water in the area at the top of the rapids. Emergency personnel from the Sault Ste.

On October 25th just before shortly before 9 am a 9-1-1 call was received regarding a male falling out of a boat and into the water in the area at the top of the rapids.
Emergency personnel from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Fire Services quickly responded to the area. The Sault Search and Rescue was also called in for their assistance.

It is believed that the male tied up a boat to one of the piers in the dam area. It is believed that the male either fell out of the boat or lost his footing on the pier and fell into the water. The male, who was not wearing a life jacket, was unable to get back into the boat or to the pier and as a result drowned.

The recovery of the victim was completed with the assistance of a Canadian National Railway maintenance truck and the assistance of Brascan Power Corporation (Canada) and Edison Soo Electric (U.S.A.) by shutting down several compensating gates to allow for the safe recovery of the deceased by members of the Sault Search and Rescue.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Officers from both Patrol Services and Investigation Services are continuing their investigation into 2 break and enters yesterday that occurred during the day time hours. Police are currently looking for a number of suspects in regards to the break and enters.


1) Around 8 am yesterday morning it is alleged that 3 males broke into a residence in the 400 block of Albert Street East. It is alleged that the males assaulted a male victim in the residence by threatening him with a baseball bat. When the suspects left the residence one of them threw a baseball bat at the victim striking him in the hand and foot. The suspects stole a DVD player and TV. The suspects and the victim are known to each other.

2) Just after 11 am yesterday morning it is alleged that the same three male suspects broke into a home in the 100 block of Biggings Avenue. The males were accompanied by a female suspect. It is alleged that during this incident the female victim was assaulted by being struck by a baseball bat, having her hair pulled and having her hand placed in a vice. It is further alleged that the female suspect held a small knife to the victim and also punched the victim in the face. The victim and the accused persons are known to each other. The victim did require medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The suspects left the scene with a TV, stereo equipment, several DVD’s and CD’s and an undisclosed amount of money.

Male Charged with Breach of Probation

A 34-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday afternoon. It is alleged that the accused was on a probation order with conditions not to be with a female. The conditions stemmed from a domestic investigation involved the male and the female. Officers observed the male and female together in the downtown area. The accused has been charged with one count of breach of probation.

Youth Charged with Possession

A 12-year old young person was arrested yesterday afternoon after the youth showed up at a centrally located elementary school with drugs on them. It is alleged that the youth showed several students the narcotic and then threatened to harm any other students if they told on the youth. It is alleged that the youth had 10 grams of cannabis resin marijuana approximately 17 grams of marijuana and some money on them. The estimated street value of the drugs is $500. The youth has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. The youth will appear in court on November 29th.

Youth Charged with Assault


Yesterday afternoon around 3:30 pm it is alleged that a 13-year old youth attended at a residence in the 100 block of Spadina Avenue and assaulted another youth by punching the male victim in the face and stomach and then pushed the victim to the ground. The youth left the area and was later arrested and charged with one count of assault and will appear in court on November 29th.


City Police received 2 other reports of break and enters in the last 24 hours:

1) A male suspect carrying a large backpack was observed just after midnight this morning in the 100 block of Bristol Place. It is alleged that the suspect attempted to break into a garage but did not gain entry.

2) Just before 4 am this morning thieves broke a window at the Golden Dragon Restaurant located at 306 Northern Avenue. Thieves stole 4 bottles of liquor.
