Failure to Stop for Railway Crossing

At approx. 12:25 AM this morning City Police were dispatched to the railway crossing on North St. regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a train. Upon arrival officers discovered that the driver of a vehicle that was southbound on North St. failed to stop for the train crossing signals and was struck by a westbound train. After being struck by the train the vehicle then struck a stopped northbound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Charlene Nevitt of 172 Cathcart St. and the two occupants of the northbound vehicle suffered minor injuries. The vehicle suffered extensive damage. Charlene Nevitt was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Failing to Stop for Railway Crossing.


Break and Enters

Culprit(s) broke into the Beaver Gas Station located at 143 Trunk Rd by breaking the front door window and then stealing a quantity of cigarettes. This incident took place at approx. 5:15 AM Monday morning.

The King George School located at 70 Gladstone Ave was broken into by breaking the glass on a rear door. It is unknown if anything was taken.

An attempt break and enter was reported to a residence in the 100 block of Goulais Ave. Culprit(s) removed two screens from a rear window and tried to pry the window open.

Damaged Bus Shelters

The Sault Ste Marie City Transit reports that two of their bus shelters were damaged over the weekend. Unknown persons broke the glass on the shelters located near 701 Pine St. and 588 Albert St. W.

Mischief Reports

City Police are also investigating reports of mischief in the 500 block of Albert St.W. where a house was egged and to a residence that was hit with paintballs in the 400 block of Laurier Ave.

On Saturday Oct 9th City Police were called to attend at a mischief complaint at 579 John St. It is alleged that the tenant, who was renting a fully furnished apartment, damaged all the furniture in the premises. The accused, 47 year old, Christian Ferry was arrested and is charged with Mischief and Breach of Probation. He will be appearing in Bail court today at 10:00 AM.

4 Arrests in Break-In

On Sunday Oct 9th at appox. 6: 20 AM City Police attended at 134 Gore St. and arrested four male persons. It is alleged that the males broke into the JBC Variety Store located at 143 Gore St. and stole in excess of $ 360.00 worth of cigarettes. The Accused persons are:

1. Wayne Briscoe, age 22, of 110 Wilding Ave. He is charged with: Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property and Breach of Probation.
2. Darrell Saunders, age 23, of 134 Gore St. Apt. 2B. He is charged with: Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property and Breach of Probation.
3. Bruce Golden, age 27, of 65 George St. He is charged with: Break and Enter and Possession of Stolen Property.

They will be appearing in court on Monday Nov 14th at 9:00 AM.

The fourth accused -Curtis Pheasant; age 24, of No Fix Address is charged with Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Breach of Probation, 2 counts of Breach of an Undertaking and Fraud. He will be appearing in court on Monday Nov. 14th at 9:00 AM.

13 Counts of Mishief

At approx. 850 PM on Sat. Oct 8th City police arrested two young persons and charged them with 13 counts of Mischief. The charges stem from damages caused to vehicles that were parked in the Wallace Terr – Adeline- Hudson St. area. Most of the vehicles damaged were construction vehicles, being used to build the new truck route. Both accused persons will be appearing in court on Tues. Nov. 8th at 9:30
AM.
