FRAUD ALERT

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service, Fraud Unit would like to inform the public on a possible scam by phone.

It appears individuals may be calling random telephone numbers and claiming to be servicemen from local telephone service companies such as Telus. They then advise that they are conducting a test on the phone lines and to complete the test it is required that you press 9, then 0, then the pound sign #. They then ask that you hang up.
By pressing these three numbers in succession you are allowing individuals to have full access to your personal phone line.
DO NOT PRESS 90# for anyone.

If members of the public receive calls such as these or other suspicious phone calls regarding maintenance on your phone, hang up and contact your telephone provider.
