Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrants Yesterday afternoon City Police attended at 147 Old Wallace Terrace and arrested 35-year-old Richard Kevin Witty. Mr. Witty was arrested on 5 outstanding warrants dating back to November of last year.

Yesterday afternoon City Police attended at 147 Old Wallace Terrace and arrested 35-year-old Richard Kevin Witty. Mr. Witty was arrested on 5 outstanding warrants dating back to November of last year. He will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.

Male to Appear in Court

At approx. 7:15 AM yesterday morning City Police attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and arrested 39- year-old Geoffrey Scott Chammings on a warrant. It is alleged that Mr. Chammings failed to report to the Remand Centre on the 23rd of May- as directed by the courts.
He will be appearing in court Monday June 27th at 9:00 AM.


The Sault Ste Marie Police service is investigating three break and enters that took place in the past 24 hours.

1. A residence in the 100 block of Pond St. was entered via a rear kitchen window.Thieves have stolen a purse and wallet.

2. A residence in the 100 block of Albert St.E. was entered via a rear 2nd floor window.A TV, DVD and other electronic equipment were stolen.

3. A residence in the 300 block of Albert St.W. was entered by forcing a rear window. A TV and electronic equipment were stolen.

4.There was also an attempted break and enter reported to a residence in the100 block of Elmwood Ave.


Police are investigating reports of mischief to vehicles in the following areas:

The 100 block of East Balfour St.
The 100 block of Mary Ave.
The 200 block of Elizabeth St.
The 100 block of Allard St.

Investigation into Thefts

City Police are also investigating two thefts that were reported yesterday. A vehicle parked on LaSalle Crt. was entered and some contents were stolen. Algoma University reports that unknown person(s) stole to lap top computers from their facility.Anyone having any knowledge on these crimes is asked to contact the City Police or Crimestoppers.

Bears Sited

City Police were called to three locations regarding bears being sighted. At approx. 2:50 AM this morning a bear was reported walking north on Great Northern Rd. near Kent Ave. Another bear was reported on Hill Rd. in Prince Twp and last night, at approx. 8:45 PM, a mother and four cubs were seen in a backyard in the 900 block Third Line W. Citizens are advised to keep their distance from the bears especially if the mother is with cubs.
