Police Respond To Break and Enter in Progress – Two Males Arrested On the 16th of May, 2008 at approximately1:37 pm, members of the Street Team and Patrol Services responded to a report of a break and enter in progress to a residence on Beech Street.
Police Respond To Break and Enter in Progress – Two Males Arrested

On the 16th of May, 2008 at approximately1:37 pm, members of the Street Team and Patrol Services responded to a report of a break and enter in progress to a residence on Beech Street. Upon arrival, officers located one person inside the residence and another outside of it. Officers at the scene located break in instruments and property in the possession of one of the accused consisting of cash and jewellery. Further, one of the accused obstructed officers by providing a false name. At the time of the arrest, one of the males also resisted arrest and was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court and not complying with release conditions. Police seized a quantity of cash and some jewellery.
As a result, the following two males were arrested and charged and are to appear in bail court this morning:

1) 21 year-old Ryan Harris of #9-715 Douglas Street was charged with one count of break, enter and commit, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of possession of housebreaking tools one count of obstruct peace officer by providing a false name and two counts of breach of a release document by failing to adhere to conditions of house arrest and failing to notify change of his address.

2) 37 year-old John Laundrie of 418 Wellington Street West was charged with one count of break, enter and commit, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of breach of a release document, one count of resist peace officer as a result of resisting police at the time of his arrest and attempting to flee. The accused was also wanted on an outstanding warrant and further charged with one count of fail to appear court.

Two arrested for Shoplifting Incidents

23 year-old Derek Lethbridge of 438 North Street and 19 year-old Sophie Nash of the same address were arrested on the 17th of May around 3:30 pm and charged with two counts of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 16th of May at approximately 8:36 am the accused Sophie Nash attended at Wardlaw Fuels on Wellington Street West and stole items valued at $24.00 as the co-accused Derek Lethbridge acted as a lookout. It is further alleged that on the 17th of May around 3:21 pm the two accused attended at Zellers at the Station Mall and stole approximately $15.00 worth of merchandise. The two were apprehended by store security and held for police. At the time of the incidents the accused Derek Lethbridge was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and was further charged with two counts of breach of probation. He is to appear in bail court this morning. Nash is to appear in court on the 23rd of June.

Domestic Related Arrests

1) A 38 year-old male was arrested on the 18th of May at 1:48 am at his residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 18th of May around 1:35 am the accused attended at the residence of his ex-girlfriend, got into a verbal argument with her and assaulted her by back handing her and choking her. The victim received non-life threatening injuries. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

2) A 41 year-old male was arrested on the 16th of May at 9:40 pm at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center and charged with four counts of threaten death or bodily harm, one count of criminal harassment and one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to public. It is alleged that on the 16th of May around 12:30 am the accused attended at his ex-wife’s residence and assaulted her by grabbing her by the face. Police discovered through further investigation that on the 4th of April the accused attended at the same victim’s residence and threatened her and three other persons known to her. At the time of this incident, the accused was holding a wooden bat. It is further alleged that on the 16th of May the accused phoned the victim repeatedly and was looking in her window. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Arrested for Impaired Driving

18-year-old Clinton Ritchie of 33 Broad Street was arrested on the 19th of May at 1:58 am on Trunk Road and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that on the 19th of May around 1:55 am the accused was driving northbound on Shannon Road and was observed by police failing to stop at the stop sign at Trunk Road. The vehicle was stopped in a business parking lot on Trunk Road and at the time, the driver, the accused, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He is to appear in court on the 23rd of June.

Break and Enters Reported over the Weekend

1) A residence on Glen Avenue was entered during the day on the 16th of May. A Laptop, jewellery and some CD’S were reported stolen.

2) There was an attempt break and enter to the Healing Arts Centre on Bruce Street activating the alarm on the 17th of May around 6:28 am. Nothing was reported stolen.

3) There was an attempt break and enter that activated the alarm at Korah High School on Goulais Avenue on the 18th of May at 12:39 pm. Officers attended and searched the area, but were unsuccessful in finding anyone in the area. . No entry was gained.

4) A shed on Wallace Terrace was entered on the 18th of May. Two motorcycles were reported stolen.

Mischief Reports over the Weekend

1) The City Bus shelter at McNabb and Willow Avenue was damaged sometime overnight on the 17th of May.

2) A vehicle parked on Estelle Street was severely scratched sometime overnight on the 17th-18th of May.

3) A rock was thrown through a front window of a residence on Robin Street at around 3:10 am on the 19th of May.

4) Four windows at the Parks Canada Building on Canal Drive were smashed out.
