Police Week Reminder Just a reminder to the public about Police Week. From May 18th to 20th 48 agencies will be set up in the Station Mall and the public is invited to attend.

Just a reminder to the public about Police Week. From May 18th to 20th 48 agencies will be set up in the Station Mall and the public is invited to attend. The opening ceremonies will take place at 11 am in the Laura Secord Food Court on Wednesday. During those 3 dates, the public can also register their bikes with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service between the hours of 11 am and 7 am. The City Police Booth is located inside this court. (Bikes will not be able to be registered until after 12 noon on Wednesday.) You need to bring your bike into the Mall to have it registered. The Station Mall is making the exception of allowing bicycles in the Mall for the sole purpose of registering. The public is advised to enter and exit with their bikes via the Laura Secord entrance, your bike is to walked in and out of the Mall, and once the registration is complete the bicycle is to be removed from the Mall.

Male Threatens to Cause Death

A 31-year old male will appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on May 15th the male assaulted his girlfriend by grabbing her by the hair, kicking her in the stomach and pushed his bicycle into her. This incident occurred in the central area of town. Shortly after the assault it is alleged that the accused threatened to kill the victim. The male has been charged with one count of assault and one count of threatening to cause death.

Break and Enter

Just after 1 am 2 17-year-old youths were arrested for breaking into a garage in the 1000 block of Queen Street East. It is alleged that the two accused broke into the garage and stole a stereo valued at $200. The homeowner reported the break in immediately and police located the 2 suspects walking on Woodward Avenue carrying the stolen stereo. Both youths were charged with one count each of break and enter and commit an offence and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. One of the youths was also charged with one count of breach of probation. Both youths will appear in bail court this morning.

Police Need Your Assistance

In the early morning hours of May 16th thieves broke into 2 Frito Lay trucks that were parked on Great Northern Road between Third Line East and Fourth Line East and stole several cases of assorted potato chips. If you know where this chips may be call City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867.

Attempted Break and Enter

Around 4 am this morning thieves attempted to enter a shed in the 100 block of Fairmount Drive. Entry was not gained but 2 males with a flatbed style truck were responsible for this and fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Police Control Traffic

Last evening City Police attended in the 400 block of First Avenue and controlled traffic while the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a house fire in that block.
