MENTAL PATIENT APPREHENDED Yesterday at 5:24 pm, a young adult female patient from the psychiatric ward at the Sault Area Hospital left there without permission and was reported missing.

Yesterday at 5:24 pm, a young adult female patient from the psychiatric ward at the Sault Area Hospital left there without permission and was reported missing.

The female left the hospital on foot wearing a red jacket and p. j. bottoms. Patrol Officers observed the emotionally disturbed female behind Mary's Lunch on Queen Street East. When officers attempted to apprehend the female she tried to run away and struck the officer in the chest.

With the assistance of a second officer, she was escorted back to the hospital without further incident of injury. No one was injured in the incident and no charges were laid.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated several break-ins yesterday. At noon hour a homeowner from Northland Road advised Police that sometime between May 9th and May 12th at 10:30 am, unknown person or persons entered his garage and stole numerous items including a lawnmower, snow blower and various tools.

At 4:39 pm another homeowner from Manitou Drive reported that his shed had been entered. Officers learned that sometime between Thursday, May 8 and Monday the 12th, an unknown person or persons entered the shed and stole a green 6.5 horsepower rear-bagging self-propelled Craftsman lawn mower, a gas trimmer with edger attachment, golf shoes and a golf bag with a full set of golf clubs.

At 5:30 pm, a male who was moving into the Bloor/Morin St area, advised police that his apartment been entered and television set and stereo stolen.

Shortly before 8:00 pm a private security company advised police of another break in. Investigation revealed that at approximately 7:50 pm the accused, a 12-year-old male broke into a building in the 200 block of North Street. The accused was in the building with the co-accused, a 15-year-old male, a 12-year-old male and another 15-year-old male.

Once inside the building the young males broke the glass of an inner door and discharged a fire extinguisher. At 8:09 pm Patrol Officers arrested the young offenders inside the building and charged the youths with Break and Enter. Also one of the 15-year-old males was charged with Possession of a Break In Tool, when a power screwdriver was found in his pocket.

All four young offenders were on various release terms with conditions either not to associate with each other or to keep the peace and be of good conduct. Having breached these conditions the youths have been charged with Failing to Comply with a Disposition. They will all appear in bail court today.


COMPUTER THEFT SOLVED
Detectives yesterday completed a theft investigation from the early spring. On March 18th at approximately 9:30 pm. an adult male entered Mike's Mart Confectionary at 179 Gore Street with a $2,000.00 laptop computer. He accidentally left it there and when he returned to the store it was gone.

Police were called to investigate the theft. Yesterday at 9:27 pm detectives arrested and charged Dan Nystedt, age 30 of 25 London Street with Theft. He will appear in court on June 30th.


ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
At 8:00 pm last evening a 38-year-old male assaulted his 34-year-old common-in-law wife by pushing her. The victim was not injured in the assault.

When patrol officers arrived at the residence in the city's west end, the male had left the scene in a taxi but during the course of the investigation he returned to the scene. At 8:09 pm police officers arrested and charged the male with Assault. He will appear in court on May 16th.

ACCIDENT RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE
This morning at 2:24 am Teddy Moran, age 30 of 135 Panoramic Drive was driving his 2002 Chrysler 4-door sedan eastbound on Bay Street in front of the Casino. Moran attempted to pass another eastbound car in the same lane as his vehicle by passing it on the driver's side. Moran?s vehicle then struck the driver's side of the other car.

The other vehicle was a 1997 Mazda sedan being driven by Kevin Boissoneau, age 32 of 700 Hwy. 17 East, Garden River. Patrol officers were called to the scene at 2:25 am and found that Moran's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

At 2:35 am police arrested and charged him with Impaired Driving and Driving over .08 under the Criminal Code. In addition the officers also charged Moran with Driving a Motor Vehicle without a Licence and Passing off the Roadway under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act. Both vehicles received moderate damage in the collision and no one was injured. Moran will appear in court on June 16th.
