Body Found Around 12:30 pm today officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended in the area of the Old Stone House located at 843 Queen Street East.
Body Found

Around 12:30 pm today officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended in the area of the Old Stone House located at 843 Queen Street East. A member of the public located a body in a snow bank in a parking lot just to the east of the Old Stone House and called City Police. Officers from Patrol Services have secured the area. Members from Investigation Services and Forensic Services also remain at the scene conducting an investigation into this incident. Any information regarding the identity of the deceased person will be released after identification has been made and next of kin has been notified. Further information will be released as it is obtained.

Male Arrested for Assault

A 39-year old male was arrested on the 25th of March after it is alleged that he assaulted his common law wife by slapping her while in their west end residence. The accused was on probation at the time of the incident with conditions not to molest, harass or annoy the victim. Just prior to arrest it is alleged that the accused dropped a small container with a small quantity of narcotics in it. The container was seized by officers. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of breach of probation and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

Mischief Under 5,000 Charges Laid

29-year old male will appear in bail court today after being arrested on the 25th of March. It is alleged that one the 20th of March the accused assaulted his common law girlfriend while in their centrally located residence. The assault consisted of punching the victim in the back of the head, pulling her hair and slapping her in the face. The assault occurred while the victim was holding a small child in her arms. The victim did not require medical treatment for her injuries and the child did not receive any injuries. It is also alleged that the accused entered the residence on the 20th of March by using an axe to gain entry into the residence, which had been locked. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000.


Numerous Charges Laid Against Male

A 20-year old male was arrested on the 28th of March in relation to a dated domestic call in the City’s west end. It is alleged that between the 9th of January and the 28thof March the accused threatened his girlfriend on a number of occasions. Some of the incidents alleged include threatening the victim with a firearm, threatening to harm her while holding a knife to her throat, calling and showing up at her residence and intimidating her. During this time period the accused was on probation to keep the peace, remain away from the victim’s residence, not to molest, harass or annoy the victim and not to communicate with the victim. The accused has been charged with 6 counts of breach of probation, one count of use a firearm or imitation during the commission of an offence, one count of pointing a firearm, 3 counts of threatening death or bodily harm, one count of criminal harassment, two counts of assault with a weapon, and one count of intimidation. Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to investigate this complaint.

Male Charged With Theft

22-year old Cassie Woodcox of 1107-70 East Street will also appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on the 28th of March the accused attempted to steal about $125 worth of meat from Pino’s IGA on Trunk Road. The accused was apprehended by staff and turned over the City Police. At that time it was learned that the accused was wanted on warrants for failing to appear for fingerprints. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of fail to appear for fingerprints.

Impaired Driver

44-year old Joseph Duguay of 3-4012 Queen Street East was arrested just before 3 am on the 27th of March. City Police had received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the downtown area. Patrol officers working in the City’s east end observed a vehicle cross the centre line of Queen Street East in the area of Varsity as the car traveled towards the officers in an eastbound direction. Officers turned around and stopped the car in the area of Varsity Avenue. The driver displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested. The accused has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over legal limit. He will appear in court on May 9th.

Break and Enter

City Police received one report of a break and enter over the weekend. The break and enter occurred during the daytime hours to a residence in the 300 block of Albert Street East. Items taken include a Play Station and games as well as a CD Walkman.


Vehicles Damaged

On the 27th of March City Police received 4 reports of vehicles in the Heritage Place apartments of 627 MacDonald Avenue being damaged. All the vehicles involved had their windows smashed and one vehicle had a briefcase removed from it.
