A 47-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just before midnight in relation to a domestic dispute. Late last evening the victim attended at the City Police and reported an assault that had occurred on May 28th in the couples centrally located residence. It is alleged that on that date the accused threw a plate at the victim, striking her in the leg and leaving a bruise. The male has been charged with one count of assault.

Theft Charges

Yesterday morning 38 year old Lisa Gionette and 29-year-old Richard Gabrylewicz both of 23 Blake Street attended at the City Police and turned themselves in on outstanding warrants for one count each of failing to appear in court. The pair had each been charged on a previous date with theft. The pair will appear in court on July 11th.

Break and Enters

Yesterday City Police received 2 reports of break and enters:
Sometime over the weekend thieves broke into William Merrifield School on Patrick Street and made off with a small-undisclosed amount of money and a camera.

A home in the 100 block of Softwood Drive was entered yesterday during the daytime hours. Thieves made off with a signed Ron Francis jersey, a digital camera, a digital camcorder, an X-box as well as a variety of games and DVD’s.

If you know where any of this stolen property is, or who is responsible for the break and enters call City Police at 949-6300. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 942-7867 and if your information leads to an arrest you could receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Moter Vehicle Collisions

City Police were kept busy yesterday responding to motor vehicle collisions. 4 of the calls involved individuals being taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries:

1)Shortly before 8:30 am a car operated by 40-year old Sandra Davidson of 210 Wellington Street East was backing out of her driveway when she struck 19-year old Lance Walker of 404 Spadina Avenue who was traveling eastbound against traffic on his bicycle. It is alleged the Mr. Walker was moving from the sidewalk to the roadway when the 2 collided. Mr. Walker was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of drive wrong way-one way traffic.

2)Around 4:15 pm yesterday 31-year old Tracy Brandow of 566 Northland Road was stopped on John Street in her pickup truck waiting to make a left hand turn into a driveway in the 300 block of John Street. It is alleged that a pickup truck operated by 21-year old Blake Millroy of 79 Robin Street was also on John Street traveling northbound when he failed to stop in time and struck the backend of the Brandow vehicle. Tracy Brandow was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Mr. Millroy has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of careless driving.

3)Around 4:20 pm yesterday afternoon Yaroslava Jacula of 329 Devon Road was driving her car eastbound on Shafer Avenue when she lost control of her vehicle. The car went up across the lawn of a house in the 600 block of Safer Avenue, across some steps and came to a stop in a sunken driveway at that address. Mrs. Jacula was taken to the hospital for treatment of a medical condition and it is believed she did not receive any injuries in the collision. Her car received moderate damage; the steps and garage door on Shafer were damaged as well. The investigation is continuing into this matter.


4)Just after 6:30 pm officers attended at Korah Road and Second Line West for another collision that send one person to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A pickup truck operated by 57-year old Ralph Winslow of Goulais River was traveling eastbound on Second Line East with the green light. It is alleged that a car operated 43-year old Bonnie Concannon of 434 McNabb Street, which was traveling westbound on Second Line East, turned southbound onto Korah Road in front of the Winslow truck. Mrs. Concannon was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicle sustained moderate damage. Mrs. Concannon has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of left turn – fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.
