Update to House Fire at 113 Cathcart Street: Investigators with the Sault Ste.
Update to House Fire at 113 Cathcart Street:

Investigators with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the Fire Marshall’s office are continuing the investigation into the house fire at 113 Cathcart Street that occurred around 5:26 am on the 30th of May.

At this point in the investigation, the fire does not appear to be accidental and is now being treated as an arson investigation. There are no further details to be released at this time.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 25 year-old male was arrested on the 1st of June at 10:06 am at his residence and charged with two counts of threaten death or bodily harm, one count of mischief and one count of assault. It is alleged that in the early morning hours on the 1st of June the accused woke his common-law partner up and an argument ensued. He threatened her and assaulted her by punching her and throwing her around. Further, the accused ripped the phone cord from the wall, damaging it. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Two Male Shoplifters Charged:

1) 20 year-old Cameron McDonald of #3-109 Carufel Avenue was charged yesterday afternoon with one count of theft under $5,000.00 after he allegedly attended at Wal Mart around 2:10 pm and stole a bandana. He was apprehended by store security and held for police. He is to attend in court on the 6th of July.

2) A 15 year-old male youth was arrested on the 1st of June at 7:48 pm at a west end location and charged with two counts of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 1st of June the youth stole a pair of shoes from the Winner’s Store and when he was leaving the Mall property he stole a bike and fled. He was located later at his residence in possession of the stolen shoes and bike. He will be appearing in court on the 30th of June.

Police Investigating Truck and Bicycle Collision Attempting to Identify Operator of Bike:

Sault Ste Marie Police Traffic Services investigated an accident last evening around 9:30 pm at the Fort Creek Conservation Area that involved a black GMC Pickup and a bicycle. The truck had just entered the Conservation area travelling in a northbound direction when it struck an eastbound bicycle that had just exited the bush trail area. The male operator of the bike appeared uninjured and left the scene before he could be identified. Traffic Investigators wish to assure the bike operator is not injured and want to complete the report and they are asking that the operator of the bike to contact the Traffic Office at 949-6300 Ext. 348 or 295.

Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run Today:

On Tuesday the 2nd of June 2009 members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service partnered with the Local Enforcement Agencies and Special Olympics will be participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The event will take place on Great Northern Road commencing at 4:30 pm. The run will encompass a route starting from Boston Pizza travelling south to the Great Northern Hotel and Conference Centre, followed by a stop at Rome’s Independent Grocers. The run will then return north, stopping at Wal-Mart and completing at Boston Pizza. Motorists are asked to use caution when passing the runners who will be occupying the right lane of traffic and escorted by police vehicles.
